Creative Ways to Fill Spacious Homes
At some point or another, we’ve all dreamt up our ideal home. While some of us dreamed of having a writing room and our very own ice skating rink, others thought more practically. We imagine a cute, Disney-themed nursery, wide open backyard, and walk-in closets. None of our ideal homes are identical, but they all usually have one thing in common; space. Most people dream of spacious homes where they can raise kids and own a bunch of pets and grow old in. Even people who live in tiny homes find ways to make it more spacious. Spacious is better, right? But sometimes it’s hard to effectively fill all of the spacious nooks and crannies of your home. Luckily for you, we here at Accent Homes have some pretty good tips on how to do so.
Tip #1: Make Use of “Dead Space”
Dead space refers to oddly shaped corners, crannies, and everything in between in homes that many people feel like they can’t be used for anything. Quite frankly, many people let precious space go to waste. Whether you’re trying to fill out your spacious home or find more space in a cluttered, but spacious home, dead space can help you with that.
Some tips include using dead space for decoration or for extra storage. If you want your home to feel more decorated, hanging plants, pictures, or hooks to hang things on can really bring an oddly shaped corner to life. You could also add more storage by putting up a corner shelf or cabinet (yes, they exist). Shopping around at furniture stores, garage and estate sales, and even thrift stores can help you find the furniture piece you need to fit that space.
Tip #2: Add Play Areas
We mean play areas for both children AND adults. For children, you could use dead space above a staircase to create a playroom. Or you could use it to put a ceiling hammock. (If you don’t believe us that this is possible, Google it! It’s pretty cool!) You could also renovate an attic, old office, or storage room for a playroom for your children. Once they’re grown, you could make it into an art space, sewing room, or guest bedroom! Pretty neat ideas exist out there if you take the time to look.
For adults, you can get really creative. You could turn an old guest bedroom into a home theater or video game room. Maybe you’ve always wanted to start a band and need a cool place to jam? You could always use an extra room to practice. If you’re worried about the neighbors complaining (Even if you’re playing wicked jams, some boring people may complain. Every party needs a pooper, am I right?), you could always soundproof that room. Either way, there are ways to get creative with extra space.
